Why is collagen important for my skin?

Collagen is composed of protein strands that lift and support the skin, lending it volume and firmness. Elastin is a protein that makes your skin elastic and flexible. Hyaluronic acid helps plump up the skin with hydrating moisture. As the skin ages, it produces less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

After age 20, your skin produces about 1% less collagen each year. By the time you are in your 40s, your skin has about 20% less collagen than it did in your youth. That’s why your skin begins to sag, and you may have developed wrinkles.

Your skin quality can also be negatively affected by lifestyle choices and environmental stressors, such as:

  • Toxins
  • UVA and UVB rays
  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Lack of exercise
  • Poor quality skin-care products

Radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening machine boosts the production of collagen, restores volume, and improve skin tone for a more youthful and healthy appearance.

What is radiofrequency skin tightening?

Radiofrequency skin tightening is a state-of-the-art, noninvasive technique that uses RF energy to penetrate your epidermis -- the top layer of your skin -- and heat up the collagen that resides in the dermis (the middle layer of your skin). Heating the collagen forces it to contract, which tightens and firms up your skin.

Warming the collagen also triggers a wound-healing response in your body that signals it to produce new collagen. These fresh, long strands of collagen create a stronger, tighter matrix that plumps up your skin. The RF treatment also stimulates the production of elastin and hyaluronic acid.

An RF skin-tightening session not only makes your skin look young, but it also stimulates it to act younger, too. Radiofrequency skin tightening can firm up your face, neck, arms, abdomen or other body parts.

How is RF skin tightening performed?

The handheld RF device is gently applied to your skin so that it heats the dermis and contracts the collagen.

The treatment usually takes 20-30 minutes for the face. Clients typically achieve their desired results after four to six RF skin-tightening treatments once a week. Touchups are advised every six months to 1 year.

Are there any risks or side effects?

If you have any health issues or skin disorders, you should get medical clearance from your health provider before undergoing RF skin tightening.
